Alonso Leon-Velarde’s primary focus is Painting and Drawing, thinking of himself as an internal voyager, a painter with a mind in exile. His works' pictorial resolution is filtered and framed by sifting disorganized, eclectic and geolocated material, using an adaptive semiotic logic that is associative rather than descriptive. Through non-representation devices LV contemplates a type of syncretism through sight and site. A visceral and painterly recollection of these stimuli, all jostling for attention, enable the image to integrate via colour and surface. Incorporating the esoteric and psychological, LV is interested in an existential provisionality, proposing what happens when a sort of impression or preconceived notion of something changes.
