GRAY WIELEBINKSKI

London based American artist Gray Wielebinski explores gender and sexuality and how these intersect with other structures of power and identity through their multidisciplinary practice that includes sculpture, drawing, printmaking, video, performance, sound, and installation. Gray’s work uses a variety of strategies through which to interrogate identity, specifically ambivalent relationships to masculinity and whiteness, as well as explore various themes such as desire, myth-making, personal and cultural memory, surveillance, power, costume and spectacle. Their work marinates in various sexualities and ideologies, both joyous and uneasy, by way of monstrous creatures, fetish objects, ambivalent pastiche and the queer art of excess. Wielebinski’s work focuses on the transitory space that exists between concrete labels and what these ambiguous physical and ideological spaces can reveal.
